15 Sep Computer Science degrees for the technical minds
Computer and technology have become such an integral part of our life that it has permeated every industry, every field of study and every aspect of society. Knowledge of technology and the tools to leverage it is very important in every occupation. There is much demand for people with technical know-how in every profession.
Degrees in the field of computer is very popular in India due to its high demand. A reasonably talented computer graduate can easily find a job. Let’s see some of the most sought-after computer courses in India.
Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering
Students with aptitude for technology and a curiosity to learn how things work often choose BTech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) as their undergraduate degree course. From a professional viewpoint, Computer engineers are mainly involved in the design and development of solutions and applications.
Computer Science curriculum mainly focus on theoretical subjects like Algorithm Design, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture, Theory of Computation etc. Check out these Engineering colleges in Gujarat that offer engineering undergraduate degrees in CSE and IT.
Duration: 4 years
Eligibility: Student who has qualified Plus-two or pre-university with 50% aggregate with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics as main subject is eligible for applying to this course. Students also need to qualify national entrance examination, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main or any of state entrance exams. Some universities have their own entrance exams.
Postgraduation: The postgraduate program is Master of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering. There are also many specializations available in this field like Cloud Computing, Data Science etc. CSE engineering graduates can appear for GATE CSE which is the qualifying examination for joining M.Tech program. Some universities have separate entrance examination for masters program.
Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology
A BTech in IT is another appropriate degree for computer geeks. The syllabus of this undergraduate degree is similar to CSE. There is not much difference between these two streams of engineering discipline from an academic perspective. While examining the curriculum of different universities, it is obvious that the syllabus only differs in a few subjects. The curriculum of undergraduate Engineering degree in IT is more industry-oriented than CSE. It focuses mainly on Software development. IT engineers primarily focus on using and troubleshooting the applications created by CSE engineers.
Duration: 4 years
Eligibility: The eligibility criteria for joining Engineering in IT is the same as CSE. Candidates opting for B.Tech in IT should have qualified 10+2 with P+C+M. They should also undergo entrance examinations at national or state or university level.
Postgraduation: The masters degree program is Master of Technology in Information Technology. IT graduates can specialize in Network Architecture, Database Administration, and Information Security. IT professionals need to stay ahead of new technologies. They should also focus on utilizing existing technologies more effectively and efficiently. So, a postgraduate degree in IT with specialization is really worth looking into. IT graduates can also pursue a masters degree in CSE.
Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
Unlike its engineering counterparts, BCA curriculum mainly focuses on programming languages, networking, and subjects related to computer applications. It lacks a few theory-oriented subjects found in engineering curriculum. BCA students have the advantage of not bothering about tough entrance examinations.
Duration: 3 years
Eligibility: The criteria differs according to the university. Most universities demand a minimum of 45% in pre-university or Plus-two with Mathematics as a subject. Some universities also insist on English as a subject. For admission to a few universities, you have to qualify the entrance examination of the respective university. Some universities also conduct personal interviews as part of selection process.
Postgraduation: BCA students can opt for Master of Computer Applications (MCA course) after successful graduation. They can also choose Master of Information Management (MIM) or Master of Computer Management (MCM).
Innovation never stops in the area of computer science. There is a huge demand for good Computer graduates all over the world. Computer graduates can work as Consultants, Research Analysts, Database Administrators, Systems Engineers, Professors and much more.
