29 Oct Webinar: An Introduction to Algebraic Geometry by Dr. Tarig Abdelgadir (Loughborough University, UK)
Gonit Sora is organizing a webinar to be delivered by Dr. Tarig Abdelgadir of Loughborough University, Loughborough, United Kingdom. The details are given below.
Date: 31 October, 2020 (Saturday)
Time: 2.30 pm IST
Title: An Introduction to Algebraic Geometry
Abstract: I aim to give a feeling of the what algebraic geometry is and explore some of the ways it informed other areas in mathematics. I will focus on my personal perspective: I will try to address why I enjoy studying the subject and working on it.
About the Speaker: Dr Tarig Abdelgadir is a University Teacher in Mathematics at Loughborough University, UK. He obtained his PhD in 2011 from University of Glasgow and then joined as a Visiting Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics(MPIM) Bonn. He then did his postdoctoral research at the Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) in Seoul, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy and University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. He works in algebraic geometry and representation theory. More specifically, he is interested in the McKay correspondence, toric varieties, quiver representations, moduli of noncommutative del Pezzo surfaces and tensor triangulated categories.
Dr. Abdelgadir has also been involved with creating links between the mathematical community in his home continent of Africa.
The talk will be suitable for a general audience (college students are specially welcome), and will be held online via Zoom. It will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page.
All our talks are recorded and the recording is made available on our YouTube channel later.
e-Certificates will be issued to participants who attend the talk on Zoom.
If you have already registered for any webinar by Gonit Sora in the past, you need not register again, you are already in our mailing lists (unless you have told us to remove you). For those who have not registered before, you need to register at the link below.
