Gonit Sora is organising a webinar by Prof. Nayandeep Deka Baruah of Tezpur University on 22nd July 2020 (Pi Approximation Day) at 4 pm IST. The details and rules are given below.

Title: Pi: The King of Constants

Abstract: The mathematical constant π (pi) has been studied over the last four millenia. It immediately evokes a special kind of interest and a response of recognition among the scientific as well as the general public. The popularity of π has been evident by its appearance in several other context such as movies, poems, Pi Day, Guinness Book of World Records, and so on. In this talk, a few of those interesting tidbits will be discussed along with a brief discussion on various methods of calculating the digits of π.

About the Speaker: Nayandeep Deka Baruah is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Tezpur University. He did his B.Sc. from Cotton College, M.Sc. from IIT Kanpur and PhD from Tezpur University. His main research interests lies in the mathematics of Srinivasa Ramanujan, and he is well-known for his work related to various types of partition functions. He has held a visiting position in the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where he worked with Prof. Bruce C. Berndt.

The talk will be suitable for a general audience (school and college students are specially welcome), and will be held online via Zoom. It will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page.
